We began our tournament against Catforth Primary School, and started in some style. We won the game 9-0 with goals from Tabitha, Shaniyah, Monae (x2) and Saskia (x5) .  Our second match was against St Lawrence Primary School who were one of the favourites of the tournament. We lost the game 6-1, but we will remember the game for the long range effort scored by Tabitha from the half way line! What a goal it was!

In our third game we put defence first as we dug in for a 0-0 draw against Goosnargh, meaning that Mel kept her second clean sheet of the tournament. Shaniyah, Oliwia and Tabitha put in a great defensive display, and Kya and Melissa carried in this good defensive work when they came on in the second half. In our final game against another pre-tournament favourite we came up against St Andrews first team. We started the game knowing only a win would see us through to the knock out stages. We started the game slowly and conceded two early goals. Saskia scored her 6th goal of the tournament in the second to half their lead, but we couldn’t find the extra goals we needed to see us through.  At the end of the group stage we finished third in a tough group.

The third, fourth and fifth placed teams in each group then entered a penalty shootout Shield competition. We won our first penalty shootout against Harris Primary School 3-2, thanks to some great saves from Mel and some fantastic strikes from Melissa, Oliwia and Shaniyah. Our next shootout was against St Andrew’s second team. We lost this shootout 4-3 in the end, but each of the girls put in another fantastic performance. Well done to each of the girls for taking part and in particular to our captain Monae for leading by example on and off the pitch.
