For those of you who love the English language as much as I do and like to play with words, you will know that I am referring to the year 6 children who have done their SATs this week. I’m sure all the hard work will pay off and now they can look forward to all of the exciting curriculum-based lessons they will cover over their final nine weeks in Pool House…where have the years gone?
It has been lovely this week, to be able to take the time to look at the fantastic work that has gone on over the past school year in history and geography. The children have looked at topics as diverse as their school environment and finding their way around; the Indus Valley civilisation; Ancient Egypt; capital cities and countries of the UK and Europe; mountain ranges in South America; seasons of the year; the Romans; the Black Death and the travels of Christopher Columbus! It was a real pleasure to see how hard the children (and teachers) have worked to bring these topics alive.
In other news, some of the children have been doing a learning styles questionnaire. The children in Silver Class looked at and discussed what ‘learning styles’ means. They did their questionnaire and found out what their preferred learning style was and we talked about how we can use this information to help us to improve as learners. If you would like to find out a little more about learning styles, take a look at the short You Tube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQYW6vYSGXs What do you think your preferred learning style is?
In keeping with my silly blog title, I thought that the challenge this week, could be a riddle to solve:
For the Infants:
I am striped black and white,
with a short, spiky mane.
I live in a herd
on the African plain.
What am I?
Junior Challenge:
The beginning of eternity,
the end of time and space.
The beginnings of every end,
the end of every place.
What am I?
Good luck and enjoy!
