Well, who can believe that another half term has gone by already? It’s been a good week this week, working with a number of children on their spelling, reading, phonics and memory skills.

The stars of the show this week, were Callie (year 2)-who did amazingly in recalling the reading card information- and Leon (year 2) - who was fantastic in his work on the short and long vowel sounds. Our ‘memory’ focus was on working memory this week. Working memory is a little bit like the brain’s post-it notes; it allows us to remember information for time, whilst we work with it. This skill is needed in reading, writing, mathematics and many other skills in school and in life. Ask someone to test your working memory capacity, by telling you a sequence of numbers, then asking you to say them back in reverse order…how many can your working memory cope with?

Time for this week’s challenge and I think we will have a word based one today, how about another couple of riddles?

For the Infants:

Find Me!

I start with 'P' and end with 'E',

But I have thousands of letters.

Who am I?

Junior Challenge:

From what heavy seven-letter

 word can you take away

two letters and have eight left?

Good luck and enjoy a fun and safe half term break.
