Mrs Hanigan’s Blog – 28.6.17.

Imagine my surprise when I arrived at school on Tuesday morning to see two very large parcels with my name on, sitting waiting in my room. If you keep up to date with the Facebook page, you will know that we won a national competition about the ‘Where’s Wally’ books. This was all linked in to our theme we had for World Book Day back in March. The school has won over £100 of ‘Where’s Wally’ books, that will be given out (there are enough for two for each class) in September, ready for the new classes. We also won a free standing Wally-see if you can spot him…he’s keeping guard outside Mrs Cole’s office at the moment. In addition, we won some posters, stickers (the children should all have been given one yesterday) and a huge colouring board of ‘Where’s Wally’ scenes. Well done Pool House!

It is that ultra-busy time of year, when many of the juniors are rehearsing for their play, the summer fair is all go and everyone is trying to make sure that everything gets finished before the Summer holidays…that are drawing ever closer!

In our work on camouflage, the children got the opportunity to try to spot some very well-hidden animals. They were then given a particular type of habitat and had to create their own animal or use an animal that they liked to live in that habitat. They created a Mind Map to show their work and looked at how well adapted the animal was to it’s environment.

The stars this week were:

  • Amy (year 6), for another amazing Mind Map
  • Wojciech (year 5), for some fantastic ideas he contributed to the lesson
  • Zoha (year 2), for her contributions to the lesson and
  • Dylan (EYFS), for his great Mind Map about the Grass Frog, who was well adapted to living in a pond. He even had long hairs that looked like grass, to help him to camouflage.

Well done all of you.

Time for this week’s challenge. We will have some summer related anagrams. Rearrange the letters to make a word or words that are linked in some way to the summertime.
