This week in singing assembly we learnt a new song called Hotarukoi which is a Japanese song. We listened to a performance of the song and identified the instruments. We also practised Chanda Mama again as this song is proving quick tricky! We sang lots of action songs and are getting really good at using our voices to create different sounds in the Warm up song. We are going to start to get ready for Easter so this week we sang Colours of Day. This hymn is a favourite with many of the staff and children.

In Nursery we practised a few Easter songs. We sang Hot Cross Buns and we played our instruments along to We have a King who rides a donkey. We pretended the shakers were palm leaves. Ellie was very good at singing Hot Cross Buns solo and she performed it to the group. We are getting better at keeping our instruments still when asked and playing them loudly and quietly. We enjoyed singing action songs in a circle.

In Sunshine and Moonbeam class, we also sang Hot Cross Buns but we managed to sing it in parts. Moonbeam class even managed three parts in a round which was very impressive. Sunshine class are really improving their singing and were able to keep the pulse of the music with their shakers. Moonbeam were able to play their instruments in three different ways; tap, scrape and slide and we sang Jenny plays the drums. Rainbow class enjoyed singing a song all about Pinocchio. They were able to keep the pulse of the music and pause playing their instruments to perform the actions. Rainbow class also practised naming the instruments in the naming game. They got all of them correct. Well done Rainbow class.

In Bronze class we listened to pieces of music about animals. We had to work out how the animal was moving by the notes moving in jumps or steps. We also learnt about dynamics and how to write them correctly. We had to choose our own animal and compose some music to describe the animal moving. Brayton used the glockenspiel to describe a dog growling, running and eating. He performed it to the class exactly as he’d written it. Well done. Abigail used the bells instead and she described a monkey eating, swinging and climbing. We worked very hard. Next week we are going to try to write our compositions on the stave.

In Diamond class we spent most of the lesson learning the recorder. We are all getting much better at playing the higher notes but some of us still need practise to play the lower d correctly. Well done Diamond class for persevering as you will improve! We also sang some songs at the end of the lesson and listened to each other playing the same melody we learnt on the recorder on the glockenspiel. We discussed the differences between the instruments and which pitch notes to play.
