I’m not entirely sure where the time is going, but we are suddenly at the end of the Spring term, with just a hint of Spring weather to go with it! What have the year six children been doing who have come out to me this week? In mathematics, we went over some of the long-multiplication questions they had struggled with and they can all class themselves as virtual experts at it now! We moved on to division this week and made our heads ache with long division and problem-based division questions-they have all done really well.
In the reading comprehension group, we have focussed on inference - a conclusion reached on the basis of evidence and reasoning. We looked at some short passages and then answered inference-based questions. The children then looked at the long poem: The Highwayman and practiced answering questions that required inference skills. We talked about what was ‘explicit’ and ‘implicit’ in the text and how we can use this information, to infer. We even talked about how this is different depending on what characters you base your question on. We again tried to make sure that we followed the idea of P.P.E. (point, proof, explanation), or as I call it: Mr PEE- Point, Evidence, Explanation!
In S.P.A.G. and writing, we have completed our letters to Mr Bieber; looked a little more at using the subjunctive form of the verb; yet more punctuation work - focussing on higher level uses of punctuation, to improve our writing. Finally, we looked at different verb forms, when using different tenses – it wasn’t all brain-ache however and we played some games to let off steam too. They wanted the links to these (and the one from last week on sentence types), so I’ll put the links in here:

Finally, the challenge this week is linked to Easter (what else really!):
Help the Easter Bunny get to the egg in the maze.

Have fun and enjoy!
