We experienced something new this week – a trip back in time at the Imperial War Museum in Manchester. This was a fantastic day that everyone enjoyed (including staff!) We had many compliments from members of the public and staff at the museum. Well done Gold Class! Look on our gallery page for all the pictures from this fantastic day out!

Our main focus throughout the week, in the lead up to Remembrance Sunday was War Poetry. We each created our own war poem, after writing a copy in our books, also wrote a copy on a poppy which is now displayed in our classroom! These pieces of poetry were absolutely fantastic and each member of the class read their poetry out at the front of the class and some of us went to other classes. Below is a copy of the war poem created by Ruby Lewis from the perspective of all those in WW1 who we are remembering this weekend:

My spirit was alive,

My eyes used to gleam bright,

I used to love and thrive,

I used to dream in the night.

I am a tree rooted to my spot,

Shaking and trembling like dying leaves,

England has suffered a lot,

Merriless men moan out from their sheaves.

‘BANG’ shouts a gruesome, groaning, grenade,

As quick as lightning past my face,

My happy memories begin to fade,

As many dirty trenches sneer at me from their place.

Now my spirit is dead,

My eyes are only sad,

A pounding in my head,

And now I dream forever…
