A group of children from year 6 have been looking at the difference between formal and informal writing. We discussed how we can recognise the different style of writing and speech and when each would be most appropriate. We then looked at Gangsta Granny and highlighted the different levels of formality and informality in the conversation between Ben, his Granny and the Queen.

We are writing a 're-imagining' of the scene and will be editing our work next week. Do you think that the children will have remembered to include shifts in levels of formality in their work?
