This week we have been very busy with lots of different events and lots of learning in class.
In English we have finally found out why elephants have big ears!
“They have big ears to cool down when it’s hot. They flap them and the blood cools down and goes around the body.” – Mya.
We have started to make our own information booklets about elephants, as we want to share our knowledge on the animal with everyone else. The children have loved exploring different animals and we are looking forward to share our new found knowledge of them.
In our Phonics lessons, all of the groups have been working hard learning their alternative sounds. I am so proud of all the children for working so hard. They have been segmenting and blending new sounds in words and making different sentences in our new phonics books.
In Mathematics we have started looking at fractions, including halves and quarters. We have halved shapes and found the half of a number, as well as splitting shapes into quarters. This is quite a challenging concept for the children to understand at first, but they have exceeded my expectations and they have all worked incredibly well with fractions this week.
Throughout the week we have also performed our weather forecasts in Geography, explored why we listen and what we can use it for in P.S.H.C.E and today has been our big School clean up. We have been out in the School grounds tidying up and weeding. Please see our gallery page for the photos from today.
On Thursday it was World Down Syndrome day, where we all wore odd socks. Some of us even has odd hair, odd bobbles and watch straps, really getting into the spirit of the day. Thank you for all of your donations and for helping us raise £150.
Our star of the week is Kayden.
Our first merit certificate this week have been awarded to Bree-Anna for always being ready to learn, being kind and a fantastic role model to her peers. Our second merit award has been awarded to Ines for working hard in our P.E lessons, trying hard to control and move with confidence when dribbling a ball.
Lloyd’s football certificate was awarded to Jamie-Leigh.
Well done everyone!
