Welcome back! I hope you have all had a wonderful Christmas break and New Year. We have loved listening to the children’s stories of their break and I think they were very excited to see their friends. We are loving being back as a class and straight into our routine.

This week we have made promises and targets for the year ahead. We have also looked at our personal targets for our work and they are already showing promise with these.

In English we have explored fairy tales and traditional tales in English and read Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. We then sequenced the events from this fairy tale and I have been amazed at how well the children have done with their independent writing after two weeks off. Their understanding has been fantastic and I couldn’t be prouder!

In Maths we have looked at 3D shapes and being able to name then straight away. Next week we will be discussing their properties and looking for them in the classroom. We have also began our new History topic of The Great Fire of London. The children have all really enjoyed discussing what they think happened and asking questions for us to find out as we go through the topic.

Some of the children have begun phase 5 phonics and concentrating to apply their phonics to their reading and writing. This week’s spellings include the new sounds.

We have sent out new homework books with the new grids in for this half term. If you are unable to print anything at home please feel free to email any homework to me: swilson@poolhouse.lancs.sch.uk

This week our Star of the Week is Adam.

The Good friend certificate was chosen by the children and they voted for Kara.

Merit Certificates this week were awarded to Lillie for her outstanding contributions to our class discussions for the Great Fire of London, where she is demonstrates a passion for learning and a wonderful understanding already. Our second Merit this week went to Oliver for his wonderful first week at Pool House. We are super happy to have him as a part of our class.

The sports awards from AFC Fylde was awarded to Sapphire.

Well done to everyone!

We hope you all have a great weekend. I’m sure the children will be glad for a rest after a busy first week back.
