The Elves and the Shoemaker

This week has been a very busy week with us having a big focus on our High Frequency words. We have found them, written them, organised sounds to make them and used them whilst writing sentences. The progress the children have made in recent weeks with segmenting and blending is incredible. The hard work you are putting in at home with reading is certainly paying off so thank you for your support. It does mean we can have even more fun now the children have these skills!

In maths we have enjoyed looking at 3D shapes again and have made sure we understand their properties. We have done some more work on our numbers too.

After reading the story of the Elves and the shoemaker we decided that the elves were incredibly kind and helpful. Sunshine class decided that they would all have a kind and helpful day in school so we asked Mrs Cole and Mr Parkinson what jobs we could do around school to be helpful. We did a big litter pick on Wednesday, making sure we were safe and wearing protective gloves and wellies. We collected 3 bin bags full of rubbish from the school grounds and put lots of toys back in the right places. The high winds recently have caused a lot of trouble so hopefully the weather will settle down now and everything will stay where it should be. We all tried to be extra kind in school and have been helpful at home too. I was delighted to hear all the lovely things that the children had done at home to be helpful.

On Friday it was lovely to share all our favourite shoes. I brought my favourite sparkly shoes into school which I was happy to share and allow the children to try on.

This week we have done lots of outdoor exploring so children having their wellies has been a big help.

On Thursday we had another fun football session and on Wednesday in PE we learnt a new game of crab basketball. This was so much fun.

Choosing certificates was really hard as everyone really has worked so hard this week, but we settled on

Kennedy for our star of the week

Cruz and Layla for our merits

Emily for the kind friend award.

Remember next week we have our photos on Tuesday and children need full PE kits in school every day too please.
