Admissions Policy
The Standard Number for Pool House C.P School is 25. The Standard Number refers to the number of children who may be admitted to the first year of entry (the reception class) in any academic year.
The Governors admit rising fives. The Governors will adhere to the admissions criteria set out below. Within each of the defined categories, precedence will be given to children of statutory school age.
The Governors will admit children in each school year up to, but not exceeding the school’s Standard Number. If the number of requests exceeds the number of places available the following criteria apply in order of priority:
- Children whose home address is in the area served by the school
- Children who have brothers or sisters attending the school
- Children who have special educational needs and disabilities
- Children who have strong social or medical grounds for admission
- Children who have strong family connections with the school
- Children whose parents choose the school on denominational grounds
- Children whose parents have other strong reasons for their choice
If the school does not have enough places for all the children in one of the above categories, priority will be given to children who fulfil more than one of the admission criteria. If there are still insufficient places, a final decision will be made on the radial distance from home to school.
Parents of children who are unsuccessful in gaining a place will be informed in writing on the date laid down by the Lancashire Education Authority and will be told of their right to appeal.
Parents who live outside the area normally served by Pool House requesting a place for their child will be given due consideration provided there are places available in their child’s year group.
Parents who are considering sending their child to Pool House Community Primary School may visit the school by making an appointment to see the Headteacher.
Parents wishing to apply for a place in Reception Class do so through the local authority online admission form.
Parents wishing to apply for a place in any other year groups are asked to contact the school in the first instance to see if there are places available. If the year group is full parents may still apply for a place through the local authority appeals process.
The school is happy to support parents with either or both of the above applications.
