This week we turned our attention to poetry in wartime, following the conclusion of our topic on Pompeii. We began the week by discussing the key poetic features that we should be able to identify and use in poetry in year 6 (onomatopoeia, metaphors, similes, repetition, and alliteration). We then turned our attention to a written task where we had to create our own wartime poem from the perspective of a soldier in WW1. These poems were OUTSTANDING and a few examples of these are now displayed on our poetry display board outside the classroom. It was a shame that we couldn’t display all 21 of them!
In Mathematics, we took a welcome break from finding percentages of numbers. Instead we have focused our learning on short division. We began the week by generating some golden rules for whenever we need to use this method throughout the year. Then we independently solved division problems that would result in whole numbers, or numbers where we would write our remainders as fractional remainders.
Firstly, we discussed what a micro-organism actually is, before categorising helpful and harmful micro-organisms. We then set up our own investigation. We wanted to see which conditions mould prefers in order to grow. We shall be noting the progress of this experiment throughout the week and writing up the results early next week. Check back then for the gruesome details!
