Half term is here!!!!

This week we have continued focusing on poetry. We continued looking at wartime poetry and inferred the meaning of key words and sentences in the poem ‘War Girls’. We wrote a paragraph in our books about the meaning of the poem and explained certain parts of the text. This poem sparked a lot of discussion in the class which was great to see! The girls in particular couldn’t believe how women used to be treated! Each one of us now has a greater understanding of the roles the women took on during WW1 and why they did these tasks. We then split into groups to learn the poem. Once we had done this, we stood up a read out the poetry to the rest of the class with intonation and expression.

We also completed our winter poetry to hand to Mrs Soole for the annual Carol service competition. Again, this poetry was very impressive and included many of the poetic features we have discussed over the past two weeks (alliteration, repetition, metaphors, similes etc.).

A big well done to everyone with their practice papers this week. The effort and progress made was fantastic. I am really proud by what you have achieved so far and I know that Mr Herd, Mrs Cole and the rest of the school are too! A big well done to all of you!

A small homework pack has been sent home with your child to work on over half term. This includes a revision mathematics task (which should take no longer than half an hour), weekly spellings (which they have two weeks to learn) and a SPAG paper (that take no longer than 10 minutes). Please have a go at these tasks but remember to relax, unwind, have fun and spend time with family and friends over the holiday too. You have all earnt it!
