We have had a wonderful week in Moonbeam and have been super busy!

On Monday we had a terrific time celebrating all things Chinese New Year. We learnt about how the Chinese celebrate the New Year, we made our own Chinese dragon masks, went on a parade around School, played Chinese whispers, meditation and we tasted Chinese cuisine with the rest of Key Stage 1 in the hall. We have put our pictures on our gallery page.

Later on in the week we have completed alternative ‘ee’ sounds in Phonics with ‘ie’ and ‘e’, then we moved onto alternative ‘oo’ sounds and so far we have looked at ‘ew’ and ‘ue’. This is a very tricky thing to get your head around at the ages of 5 and 6, yet the children are amazing me every day with how well they are doing.

Another interesting aspect of our week has been time. So far, we have been concentrating on the hour times for o’clock and understanding that the minute hand has to be on twelve. We have been reading a variety of times on clocks as well as drawing times on analogue clocks, independently. We have been so impressed with the children’s understanding and they have thoroughly enjoyed being able to tell the time for the hour.

In Science we have finished recording the weather with our rain gauges. It is typical that there hasn’t been much rain but we worked with what we had. We have been able to answer questions using our findings and everyone is excited to use their rain gauges at home.

Also this week, we have discussed the importance of sharing and taking turns, understanding the 5K’s in R.E, analysing sources in History from the Great Fire of London and acting out fairy tales in groups.

Please can we remind you that we have a spelling test on a Friday morning and although there isn’t any pressure on the children to get full marks, there is an expectation that spellings are practiced at home. Homework is also to be handed in on Friday and if not, the children will complete their homework in Golden time.

A HUGE thank you to Lillie and Noah for our baked treats this week, they were all delicious! We have also added images to our baking treats gallery from this week. Another huge thank you to Niamh, who decided to write a letter to all of her classmate and teachers this week as part of her homework. This was such a kind thing to do to and she clearly spent a lot of time and effort on each letter. THANK YOU :)

This week our Star of the Week is Archie.

The Good friend certificate was chosen by the children and they voted for Iyla.

Merit Certificates this week were awarded to Niamh for going above and beyond for her friends, always being there for others and being a vital member of our Moonbeam family. Our other Merit award went to Ethan for his working amazingly well in Maths this week learning about time. We are so proud!

Our Chinese New Year certificates went to Viaan and Hope.

The sports awards from AFC Fylde was awarded to Hope.

Well done to everyone!

We hope you have a lovely weekend and we are looking forward to what next week brings.
