WOW! What an amazing first week we have all had in Moonbeam Class. I am so happy to be back and see the children and they have really impressed me this week with how grown up, well behaved and wonderful they all are.
We have spent our week settling into our new routines and classroom and also enjoying our new outdoors. They have loved learning about animals in the zoo, the home corner and phonics and math’s challenges. Our lovely new mud kitchen was a hot topic of conversation as soon the children stepped through the door and of course; we all couldn’t wait to get stuck in and start using it. The children have been so careful and looked after it so well and have truly loved it. We made a special thank you card to the kind gentleman who made it for us at the end of the week…thanks Jim!
As well as being outside this week, we have been writing, ordering numbers, solving Maths problems and thinking about what we would like to learn and achieve in year 1.
“In year 1 I would like to learn how to bake.” – Remi
“In year 1 I would like to help Remi bake cakes.” – Niamh
“In year 1 I would like to be able to count to 100.” – Hannah.
“In year 1 I want to read more books.” – Adam.
We will be making sure we can fit all the children’s ambitions into our year and we can’t wait to get started!
On Wednesday, Mrs Bennett came into class for our first music lesson of the year and she commented on how hard they all worked and how much fun she had with them, which makes me extremely proud. We have also already started with our Football development lessons this week and Sapphire and Lillie were chosen as this weeks football stars. Well done girls!
Homework books have been sent home this afternoon ready for the children to complete their first piece of homework for next Friday. There will be a reward for the children who complete all the homework tasks on the grid and if they aren’t completed, the children will miss their golden time on Friday afternoons. If you have any questions about this please come and speak to me, I will be more than happy to help. We can’t wait to see all of the wonderful creations the children come up with.
Spellings will be written into your child’s spelling records on Monday and be sent home, ready for their first spelling test ton Friday. Reading books have been sent home today with the original, Oxford Reading scheme, which we will now be sticking to in year 1. Again, if you have any questions please come and speak to me.
Our first star of the week is Lillie, who will get the first turn on the new star of the week chair.
Merit certificates this week went to Logan, Niamh, Viaan and Kyra, who have all been super fantastic this week.
Well done everyone!
Next week we are going to start our new topics for all subjects and this will be the children’s first insight to more formal lessons. I am very excited to get started and I’m sure the children will be too.
Have a lovely weekend and thank you so much for being so welcoming!
