Welcome to our Sunshine Class Page.

There are 25 children in Sunshine Class

We have lots of fun playing and learning together. The children focus on forming good relationships, with adults and peers,  sharing their interests and learning the rules and routines at Pool House school.

We provide an environment rich in a variety of activities focused on a weekly theme or book. This may be around a celebration or a topical theme. We value children's interests and take on board their suggestions for learning. Please inform us of anything your child shows a particular interest in, we will happily aim to include it into our future plans.

We have key worker groups each group will work with their keyworker on next steps and main areas for development. We may work as a whole class, in small groups, as pairs or individually. Sunshine class aims to develop social skills as well as promoting independent learners. We aim to provide children with a fun start to their education laying down the foundations and life skills they will need to build on throughout their next school years.

Sunshine class has access to outdoor provision as often as the weather permits, we are really excited with the big changes that have happened in our outdoor classroom ; it is now twice the size and has an amazing shelter to keep us dry in all weathers. For this reason children must have coats in school at all times and wellies too (sunscreen and caps in summer months too) . We will be exploring the local environment on walks and visits at times too.

The children in Sunshine class should have the following things in school;

  • Reading books
  • PE pumps should be left in school all term
  • Wellies and a warm coat with a hood
  • Sun cream and a sunhat/cap in Summer

We play outside in all weather conditions so please help us to ensure your child is safely equipped for this.

Please make sure that your child's belongings are clearly labelled with their names. If you require any help with uniform or labelling please speak to one of the team.

Reading

It is really important that you read at home with your child at least four times a week. Children will begin with picture books and these are to develop language and vocabulary ready for when we start reading the Oxford Reading Tree books, Little Wandle Collins books and Rising stars. It is important that you fill in your child's reading record once they have read so that they don't end up with the same book for too long. We will read with your child at least twice a week.

During the year we will be securing phonics phase 2 and 3 sounds which should really support your child with his/her reading. We also focus on learning high frequency words - those words which pop up very regularly in stories.

Our Classroom

Our classroom is changed around regularly to keep the children interested and engaged with their learning. We have prepared the classroom for the new intake by providing resources the children told us at transition visits they liked to play with.

You may hear the children talk about different things they have played with because the room is split into several different areas, each area enhanced with different resources to encourage learning across all 17 early learning goals. This is reflected both indoors and outdoors.

Popular areas are always our built in home corner, sand and water areas and creative table.  Small world and construction areas allow for good communication and language development. We try to provide cosy areas for reading and ICT.

As our topics and interests change, so does the environment. We try to show off childrens work proudly and give them ownership over the room by sharing their ideas and suggestions.

Id like to hope this is a safe and nurturing place for the children to be, they settle quickly into their classroom and soon become independent finding the things they want and need.
